Getting a high page rank may seem important, but what you are really looking to do is get high quality links from as many on-topic relevant websites as possible. By doing this you will automatically have a higher page rank and your site will be indexed as more important to google.

To increase your PR:

Do off-page optimization or link building techniques such as:

Web directory submission.
Article and Press Release Submissions.
Social Bookmarking.
Forum Posting (through signatures).
Promo Ads Posting.
Participating in Answers site like Yahoo Answers.
Commenting on related niche.
Exchanges links with related websites and with high PR.
Use white-hat SEO methods and techniques.
Get quality backlinks from high PR sites.
Unique content and unique visitors.

How often does google update PR?

Its a small logical analysis of a very small snipplet of the algoithm ....

PR, Traffic, Popularity & Time all are related .....

You must have a notification that google updates and indexes everyday. The ones with the highest PR and highest Popularity is going to get more focus.

So Focus is directly proportional with PR and Popularity.

And for my friend who started this thread ..... this is a small note. Google have rated the site PR 6 means it gets 6 / 10. So the focus is likewise. Google thinks its pulling that much traffic. There it finds a link of your site. Its better if it goes with that PR 6 site's keywords. Google will simply crawl into your site giving you traffic.

Now coming back to your PR update. Google does it within 6 months (To my senior members .... Mark I said WITHIN 6) ... This is when it slows down indexing .... and continues to update it PR datacenters.

I hope it was quiet readable with the theory part.

And neway its not the spiders you need to get into your site you need human beings and Google is nothing if there werent ne1 to search. So be logical and intelligent with your tag lines which means a lot to time scampering human traffic.
